Acta Psychologica Sinica Accepts First Preprint Paper Through Open Peer Review

To further promote transparency and openness in academic publishing,?Acta Psychologica Sinica?and PsyChinaXiv jointly launched an open peer review pilot program in March 2024. To date, six papers have been submitted for open review. After multiple rounds of evaluation and editorial re-examination, the paper titled?"The Centro-parietal N200: A Neural Marker for Orthographical Processing in Visual Chinese One-character Words Recognition"?by corresponding author Zhang Xuexin and colleagues has successfully passed all review procedures, becoming the first paper officially accepted by?Acta Psychologica Sinica?through the open review mechanism.

The study, comprising three experiments, revealed that both Chinese single-character and two-character words elicit the mid-central N200 component during visual processing. The repetition priming enhancement effect and amplitude differences suggest that this component reflects the orthographic integration process from strokes to single characters and from single characters to two-character words, serving as a neural marker for Chinese orthographic recognition. This discovery sheds light on the mechanisms of orthographic integration during the early stages of Chinese word recognition. During the open review process, the authors conducted supplementary experiments and in-depth discussions in response to reviewers’ comments, ultimately receiving unanimous "acceptance" recommendations from two reviewers. The editorial board concluded that?"the authors thoroughly revised the manuscript based on reviewers’ feedback and proposed multiple interpretations of the findings, which hold significant value for understanding Chinese character processing."?The editor-in-chief also affirmed the paper’s rigor and innovation.

On the preprint page of this paper (https://psych.chinaxiv.org/abs/202409.00256), clicking the "Peer Review" tab on the right side provides detailed access to review comments from multiple rounds. Under the current publication policy of?Acta Psychologica Sinica, this paper will be exempt from article processing charges.

The publication of this paper marks a groundbreaking advancement in open peer review within Chinese academic publishing.?Acta Psychologica Sinica?has long been at the forefront of open-access practices. We anticipate that this mechanism will foster more efficient scholarly communication, promote continuous refinement of research through transparent and open evaluation, and welcome broader participation from research teams to collectively build a new paradigm for academic exchange.
