  • Creative thinking from the perspective of embodied cognition

Subjects: Psychology >> Cognitive Psychology submitted time 2024-03-08

Abstract: Creative thinking is the kind of thinking mode that generates novel and appropriate viewpoints or products. With the rise of embodied cognition theory, numerous researches of creative thinking from the perspective of embodied cognition have been reported. However, relevant researches in China are scarce. To promote the development of domestic research, we reviewed relevant researches from the aspects of perception of movement, visual sense, tactile sense and taste sense. Relevant embodied effects were explained from the perspectives of cognitive development theory proposed by Piaget, conceptual metaphor theory and evolutionary psychology. Future research should explore the embodied creativity from the aspects of bidirectional embodied effects, the cognitive neural mechanisms, experimental repeatability, multisensory channel integration, malevolent creativity, benevolent creativity, machine learning and so on.

  • Warm reading: Clarifying the mechanisms and contributing factors of empathy in text reading

Subjects: Psychology >> Cognitive Psychology submitted time 2023-05-24

Abstract: The promoting effect of reading on social cognition has attracted widespread attention with the proposal of Social Processes and Content Entrained by the Narrative (SPaCEN) theory. As one of the essential social cognitive talents, a unified theoretical model of empathy's processing mechanism and influencing factors in text reading has not yet been established. The processing mechanism of empathy in text reading can be analyzed from three aspects: the diversity of empathy-evoking pathways, the influencing factors of empathic experience and its aftereffects, and the brain areas shared by empathy and text reading. Future multidimensional study at the fundamental processing and application level is urgently required to encourage the readers' healthy personality growth.

  • Embodied memory and its intrinsic mechanism

Subjects: Psychology >> Cognitive Psychology submitted time 2022-03-29

    Abstract:

The research of embodied memory aims at exploring the role of the body and its sensorimotor processes in memory. The manipulation or restriction of the physical state, embodied characteristics or availability of the body would affect the efficiency, valence and content of memory. The intrinsic mechanisms can be explained by several assumptions, including the encoding specificity principle, the priming effect, the metaphor representation theory and the reactivation hypothesis. However, there is still no a consensus on the mechanisms. Based on the commonness of existing research and theories, the sensorimotor simulation model of embodied memory is proposed. This model emphasizes the role of reactivation in embodied memory to explain the process of the body acting on memory and further points out the conditions of reactivation. More multi-dimensional theoretical and applied work is needed to explore the stability and underlying mechanisms of embodied memory.
